Challenge

Production VM will be deleted without warning if following conditions are met:

1. Full VM restore to vCenter Datacenter, different from original VM Datacenter, VM was running under.
2. Name of recovering VM coincide with existing VM in production.

Cause

Based on VmWare architecture, it is possible to run VMs with matching names under different Datacenter objects but within same vCenter infrastructure. However, existence of VMs with identical names but within the same Datacenter container is not possible.

Solution

Solution: Please, contact Veeam technical support to obtain hotfix.
Workaround: While performing full VM restore, please make sure unique name for the VM is specified, thus it will not coincide with the name of one of existing production VMs. Please, make sure unique VM name is specified in the restore wizard (step “Folder”) if you are willing to recover VM from another Datacenter and there is a chance of coinciding VM names.
