Azure Bill Forecast High After Subscribing to Veeam Data Cloud
Challenge
After subscribing to Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 via Azure Marketplace, the Cost Analysis chart within the Microsoft Azure portal displays a forecasted future cost much higher than expected.
Cause
The forecast chart in the Cost Analysis tile uses a simplified algorithm for calculating figures that does not accurately account for billing frequency. This means that when subscribing to Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 with longer plans, such as 1-year or 3-year terms, the forecasting algorithm may incorrectly assume that the initial charges are daily recurring charges rather than annual or one-off. Because of this assumption, it calculates a misleadingly high future cost forecast.
Solution
As explained in the Cause section of this article, the observed behavior is expected due to how the Cost Analysis system extrapolates costs.
Consider using the filters within the Cost Analysis tool to visualize future cost estimates more accurately.
If you have concerns about the expected costs, log in to your Veeam Data Cloud instance and navigate to the billing tab. Here, you can confirm the number of users and the price per user.
