Seeding Backup or Backup Copy to HP StoreOnce

Challenge

Seeding to HP StoreOnce from removable media results in the following error:

Failed to check if item [reference to vbk on the HP StoreOnce] exists.

Cause

HP StoreOnce repositories are configured with the option to "use per-VM backup files" by default.  Copying and pasting backup files from removable media to the HP StoreOnce and then mapping a backup or backup copy job to those files may result in job failure if the removable media was not also configured with the "use per-VM backup files" option, when added as a repository.

Solution

Prior to creating the seed for a backup or backup copy job, set the repository backed by removable media to "use per-VM backup files" by selecting the checkbox in the advanced properties. 



Then perform a backup or backup copy to the removable media.  The removable media should then be sent to the site where the HP StoreOnce is located and the seed can be copied to the HP StoreOnce using the Backup & Replication files view.



After the files are copied, the backup can be manually imported (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/vsphere/importing_backups.html), and a backup or backup copy can be mapped to the imported files (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/vsphere/backup_copy_mapping_file.html).
