Restore Fails for Database with Consecutive Backslash Characters in File Path

Challenge

Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SQL Server reports the error:

Inconsistent database metadata. See log for details.

Cause

One or more database file paths contained multiple consecutive backslash characters when the SQL server was backed up. For example:

E:\MSSQL\MSSQL12\MSSQL\DATA\\Prod.mdf
E:\MSSQL\MSSQL12\MSSQL\DATA\\Prod_0.ldf

Solution

Restore of databases configured in this way is not supported using Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SQL Server. To prevent this problem from occurring in the future, change the file paths of all databases to remove any consecutive backslashes.

As a workaround, the database files can be recovered from the backup via file-level restore. Point-in-time restore is not possible.
