Summary

This Veeam ONE database sizing calculator will help estimate the database size required to retain one year of historical data when monitoring the following:

• VMware vSphere Virtual Infrastructure
• Microsoft Hyper-V Virtual Infrastructure
• Veeam Backup & Replication

Results are calculated based on the following:

• Virtual infrastructure inventory
  number of objects and their configuration
• Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure inventory
  number of jobs, VMs in the backup job, and job scheduling

Usage

1. Investigate your virtual and backup infrastructures to determine the number of hosts, clusters, virtual machines, datastores to monitor, and their configuration parameters.                                
2. Enter information about your infrastructure inventory, job schedule, and the number of protected VMs on the Calculator worksheet in the Parameters column.
   Note: The green-colored text in the cells indicates user-input values; the grey-colored text shows the values that should not be changed.
3. The calculated results are available in the Results column on the Calculator worksheet. 
   

Limitations and Considerations

• This calculator provides approximate estimations. There might be some insignificant gaps between calculated results and actual values.
• In some situations, you may deal with an infrastructure of a mixed type, for example, if you plan to utilize hosts with 4 HBAs and 8 HBAs. To calculate the expected size of the databases, it is recommended to run the calculation twice – once for each host type.
• This calculator estimates the database size for Veeam ONE 12, including vSphere, Hyper-V, and Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructures.
