Release Information for Dell PowerStore Plug-In for Veeam Backup & Replication

KB ID: 4243
Product: Veeam Backup & Replication | 11 | 12
Published: 2021-11-22
Last Modified: 2023-10-31

Requirements

Before installing Dell PowerStore Plug-In v2.0.5, ensure that you are running Veeam Backup & Replication 12 or higher. To check the version, open the Main Menu (≡) in the Veeam Backup & Replication Console and select Help > About.

Dell PowerStore Plug-In v2.0.5 supports integration with the following storage systems:

  • PowerStore T series (PowerStore OS 3.x)
  • PowerStore X series (PowerStore OS 3.x)

What's New

  • Added support for PowerStore OS 3.6
  • Support for the new version of Universal Storage API v2 that enables Snapshot replication orchestration allowing backup jobs to leverage existing Dell PowerStore Native Asynchronous Replication relationships to create storage-based snapshot replicas as additional restore points. This also enables performing backup from secondary storage arrays, to avoid any load from backup activities on the primary storage array.

Known Issues

The following is a list of known major issues for Dell PowerStore Plug-In for Veeam Backup & Replication.

  • Dell PowerStore Plug-In v2.0.5 does not support integration with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. For Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows storage integration, use Dell PowerStore Plug-In v1.0.50.
  • Dell PowerStore Plug-In does not support Metro Node configuration.
  • Volume Groups snapshot transfer may fail if the time between the Dell PowerStore arrays is not synchronized (time mismatch is more than 10 seconds). Time must also be synchronized with the Veeam Backup Server for the integration to work correctly.
  • Snapshot creation may fail if the account assigned to run the Veeam Backup & Replication services uses a non-colon time delimiter.
  • If the volume is part of a replication policy, snapshots created by Veeam Backup & Replication jobs that do not use Native Asynchronous Replication as a secondary target are transferred to a target array according to the storage schedule. However, these snapshots are not automatically deleted from the target array and should be manually cleaned up. This behavior does not apply to auxiliary snapshots created during backup jobs; they are automatically deleted from the target 24 hours after creation, provided they are replicated.

Previous Versions

Dell PowerStore Plug-In for Veeam Backup & Replication [1.0.50] - 2023-07-20

Requirements

Dell PowerStore Plug-In v1.0.50 supports integration with PowerStore T and PowerStore X series running PowerStore OS 3.x, and requires at least Veeam Backup & Replication 11 P20220302.

This plug-in version does not support storage replication technologies, but replicated volume snapshots on the target array can be used for restores.

What's New

  • Added support for PowerStore OS 3.5
Note: Dell PowerStore Plug-In v1.0.50 also supports PowerStore OS 3.6.
  • Added support for IPv6

Known Issues

  • Dell PowerStore Plug-In does not support Metro Node configuration.
  • If the volume is part of a replication policy, then remote snapshots created on a replication target array are not automatically deleted on the target and should be deleted manually. It doesn't include auxiliary snapshots created during backup - those are automatically deleted from the target 24 hours after creation if replicated.

Deployment Info

  1. Ensure Veeam Backup & Replication has a valid license.
  2. If you're running Veeam Backup & Replication 11a P20220302, download and install the following private fix (required for the plug-in to pass a signature check).
The fix is not required for Veeam Backup & Replication 11a P20230227 or 12.
  3. Download and run the plug-in setup program on the Veeam Backup Server.
