Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator May Timeout During Orchestration Plan if the Source vCenter Is Offline

KB ID: 4339
Product: Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator | 5.0
Published: 2022-07-14
Last Modified: 2022-07-14
Article Applicability
The hotfix patch on this article is only intended for use with Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator 5.0.0.2768.

Challenge

When executing an Orchestration plan, Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator may hang as it processes each VM in the plan. This hang will occur if two vCenters are used (one Production and one DR), and the source vCenter is down or otherwise unreachable.

This issue affects the following Orchestration plans:

As this issue does not affect storage plans, the patch on this article is optional for Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator deployments using storage plans exclusively.

Cause

This issue occurs due to a conflicting interaction between Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator and the Veeam Backup PowerShell components.

Solution

Follow the steps below to install a patch to resolve this issue and prevent the hang condition.

Preparation:

Before installing the patch, ensure that:

  • there are no plans in an active state (e.g., failing over, halted, etc.).
  • there are no plans or scheduled to run.
  • no datalab tests are running or scheduled to run.
  • all Orchestrator agents on Veeam Backup servers have a "Healthy" status.

Patch Deployment

The patch to resolve this issue is deployed in two stages. First, the patch is installed on the Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator server. Then, a different patch is deployed on each Veeam Backup Server where an Orchestrator agent is installed.

Stage 1: Install Patch on Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator Server

Perform the following steps on the Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator server.

  1. Download the 'VDRO Server Patch' from the Download Information section below to C:\temp
  2. Open an Administrative PowerShell or Command Prompt
  3. Execute the following command to initiate the installer:
 msiexec /p C:\temp\VAO.Server.x64_5.0.0.2782.msp
  1. After the patch is installed, Reboot the Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator server.

Stage 2: Install Patch on Veeam Backup Servers with Orchestrator Agent

Perform the following steps on each Veeam Backup Server where the Orchestrator Agent is installed.

  1. Download the 'VDRO Agent Patch' from the Download Information section below to C:\temp
  2. Open an Administrative PowerShell or Command Prompt
  3. Execute the following command to initiate the installer:
 msiexec /p C:\temp\VAO.Agent.x64_5.0.0.2782.msp
  1. After the patch is installed, Reboot the Veeam Backup Server.
