"Reprotect storage volumes after failover" operation fails during storage plan execution

Challenge

If you enable the "Reprotect storage volumes after failover" option when running a storage plan, Veeam Availability Orchestrator triggers the operation of resynchronizing the SnapMirror relationship in the reverse direction.

In a reverse resynchronization operation, NetApp reverses the roles of the source and destination volumes, and the source volume becomes a copy of the destination volume. For more information on what a reverse resynchronization operation does, see the NetApp ONTAP Documentation Center.

Cause

The reverse resynchronization operation may fail to complete successfully if the names of SVMs involved in the storage failover process are used as aliases.

To check whether the name of an SVM is used as an alias, log in to the NetApp system (for both participants of the protection relationship) through the CLI interface and run the following command: vserver peer show. An alias is used if the command output displays the name of the Peer Vserver as name.*. Perform this step for both the source and destination SVMs.

Solution

To work around the issue, perform the reverse resynchronization operation manually.
