Tape job fails with “The specified network resource or device is no longer available” or “The system cannot find the file specified. Problem with CreateFile in '\\.\Tape0'”

Challenge

Tape job fails with the following error messages:
                “The system cannot find the file specified. Problem with CreateFile in '\\.\Tape0'. The system cannot find the file specified.”
                “The system cannot find the path specified.”
                “The specified network name is no longer available”
 

Cause

The issue occurs when the tape drive is reinitialized within the operating system while the job is actively writing to it.
 

Solution

Disable “Portable Device Enumerator Service” on Veeam tape server.
Service is by default in manual startup mode (Triggered) and we need to set it manually into the Disabled state.
